Use of Objectives - Artifact 10
Using the technology kept me accountable for recognizing and addressing the objectives in daily lessons. I used presentation slides to pace myself and implement strategic stop points to have students interact with objective in the Do Now, the introduction to the lesson, closure of a lesson, and exit ticket. These served as guide for students reflect on what the daily objectives meant, in terms of how to achieve it or reflect on and rate their confidence achieving an objective. This allowed them to engage with what the objectives meant in terms of their understanding and learning. The Spring Video lesson was designed with the intention of engaging students with that day’s objective in a fun way, the use of the giant gummy bear story. I used the Do Now facilitate students’ interaction with the previously learned objectives, that are the foundational for this lesson and subsequence classes. The Do Now required the students to think and write out how they would achieve each objective by breaking it down in to specific skills and their confidence level carrying them out. The mole map kept the lesson and objectives in perspective of how this material supports long-term learning goals. The giant gummy bear party story helped students place this objective into real world circumstances. The video shown to students in this lesson provided a real world visual of the chemical reaction we were discussing in the story. Then finally the lesson closed with a teacher lead example of how to carry out the day’s objective and student practice.
The structure of this lesson stemmed from my prior practice. I intentionally used objectives throughout each stage of this lesson to guide student learning. The thorough and interactive use of objectives by students throughout a lesson I was able to model how to be reflective about one’s learning using objectives. I hoped this would promote the development of their metacognitive skills.
